During a crisis, leadership and decision-making are different from normal operations. How do they differ during a crisis and why? What strategies should crisis leaders embrace? MIT’s Dr. Steve Goldman will provide insights from academic research and real-world experience on leadership during a crisis, including meta-leadership and preparing your leaders. Maurice “Mickie” Williams, Executive Director of Business Continuation for USAA, will describe USAA’s incident management and crisis response structure and processes and how they support crisis leadership and decision-making. P3: The Protection of Global Journalists: Successes and Challenges
Danny Spriggs, Vice President Global Security and Safety, Associated Press
Global Security and Safety protects AP employees and facilities by providing the most comprehensive safety protocols to more than 250 bureaus in 100 countries in support of newsgathering efforts worldwide. The objective is to identify proactive measures designed to keep AP journalists safe and secure. This engaging presentation will provide a behind-the- scenes look at the strategies, security measures, trainings and best practices used to achieve our overarching focus on security and safety in an ever-changing threat environment.

Daniel “Danny” Spriggs is Vice President of Global Security at the Associated Press. Headquartered in New York City, Danny facilitates all security-related tactical, operational, and strategic planning for over 250 bureaus in 100 countries.

Spriggs spent 28 years in the United States Secret Service, starting as a special agent with the Albuquerque, New Mexico field office, working his way up to deputy director in Washington, D.C. In that role – the No. 2 position in the agency – he helped carry out the presidential executive order transitioning the Secret Service from the U.S. Department of the Treasury to the newly created Department of Homeland Security. He later served as assistant vice president for the Federal Reserve in Philadelphia where he led the regional bank’s protection department, overseeing a uniformed force of Federal Reserve law enforcement officers.

As the number and variety of threat incidents facing our workplaces continue to expand, it is imperative to incorporate prevention, response and recovery capabilities in corporate continuity programs.  This four-hour training will cover a range of prevention and preparedness actions. The class will address the threat of domestic violence targeting the workplace and answer your questions on development or revision of a comprehensive workplace violence/active assailant preparedness program including risk assessment, planning, training and exercises.

  • Create a situation, scenario and injects for your audience, your business, your location and your BCP maturity.
  • Identify operations, decisions and policies that impact the ability of a business unit to execute
  • End the exercise with conclusions and discussions that will change, emphasize, and otherwise affect your business continuity/COOP plan.
  • Conclude with an “after action” report that will lead to effective modifications and improvements to the plans being exercised.

This course is designed to provide participants with one day focused entirely on how a BIA is carried out in an organization. It combines a presentation on the theory and current good practice on doing a BIA with a real-life application of this theory. It is delivered by an expert facilitator to share hints, tips and lessons learned on the BIA process. Actual BIA client results will be reviewed (e.g. surveys, reports, etc.). You will have the opportunity to take part in a facilitated practical session to carry out a BIA using a case study with example questionnaires and templates to take away. This course is for those BC professionals who are responsible for carrying out a BIA at a Strategic, Tactical or Operational level within their organizations, and for those who require a better understanding of this essential part of the BCM Lifecycle.

Continuity Cares Canceled

Regrettably due to unforeseen logistical issues with our partners, the Continuity Cares project scheduled for Saturday, April 18, 2020, at the Hyatt Regency Hill Country, has been canceled. Each year dozens of volunteer have worked tirelessly on tasks ranging from drywalling to food banks to community gardens to building bunk beds for children in need. We fully expect to resume the legacy of Continuity Cares at the 2021 Continuity Insights Management Conference.

 

The BCI Americas Awards Presentation Returns to Continuity Insights for 2020

The BCI Americas Awards recognize the outstanding contributions of Business Continuity, Risk and Resilience professionals living in the Americas and organizations operating in the region.
