Gino, Thanks for the response. Development and testing, thats a great idea that I hadn't tought about. I think that those two are valid reasons for using a hot site.

While further thinking about this I thought that the hot site could also be used to mitigate downtime during maintenance. By switching operations to the hot site during planned downtime for maintenance the customers don't have to lose access while we update our systems.

: : It's obvious that a hot site's primary purpose is disaster recovery. But can anyone think of other uses for hot sites, other than for disaster recovery.

: : It helps to know this when trying to get a hot site budget approved. Management doesn't want to hear that we are going to spend all this money on duplicating our datacenter to just have it "sitting there" until a disaster happens.
