: We are looking to put together a BCP in response to preparation for hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico.

: We are seeking ideas for an outline or BCP from which we can build our custom plan.

: Thanks,

David, the following is a brief listing that was used in a plan for a site located in Florida. This was part of total plan and reflected additonal steps to be taken in the event of an approaching hurricane:

Prior to Hurricane Season:
Acquire:
 Flashlights and extra batteries
 Portable, battery-operated radio and extra batteries
 First-Aid kits and manuals
 Essential medicines
 Digital camera
 3 day supply of potable water
Ensure that key senior level staff have company authorized credit cards and access to cash.
Ensure Facility personnel have sturdy construction rated (steel-toe) boots and work gloves readily available.
Obtain a camera and take pictures of all areas of the facility and the surrounding grounds.
Ensure the currency of the Staff Emergency Contact List

During A Hurricane Watch:

Confirm inventory of emergency supplies
Move company vehicles to upper floors of parking garage and make sure it/they are fueled and fully operational.
Ensure diesel generator fuel tanks are topped off and that diesel fuel is fresh.
Put critical paper documents in plastic bags. Seal bags. Locate bags above first floor in closed cabinets.
Put plastic tarp over computer equipment.

During A Hurricane Warning:

Assist employees living in mobile homes to relocate to a safe location.
Have all employees write down their destination a phone number where they can be reached.
Relocate most current tape backups and all critical documents from off-site storage vendor to remote location.
Anchor any loose outside equipment.
Power down equipment in an orderly fashion once it is determined that a storm is imminent.
Cover critical computer equipment with plastic tarp.
Trip circuit breakers to all electrical equipment before leaving and locking facility.
Dismiss staff in time to allow them to travel home and to prepare their families and living quarters for the storm.
