Mainframe migration to server environment DR issues

In today's IT environment many Company's are migrating from Mainframe systems to a Unix/server environment. A result of this is that providing DR at 3rd party recovery centers becomes extremely expensive. If a large company has 40 to 100 different sized servers ranging from Sun E10K to small Citrix boxes in its production environment, it is difficult to find a recovery center with this equipment let alone one that will provide it at a reasonable cost. In addition, the elapsed time to recover vast quantities of data in the server world from tape (e.g. 2-6 terabytes) becomes very long.

The strategy of moving from mainframe to server appears for large IT companies driving their DR budgets up possibly to the point of making DR unaffordable.

What is the industry trend regarding the migration from mainframe to server-based applications and providing DR for the server-based applications?

Are large Company's embarking on this strategy, where they could eventually end up with 100+ servers in one location, creating an environment that could never be recovered in a reasonable time scale & cost?
