Pandemic Influenza Preparedness and Response Plan "The most densely populated city in the United States and a major international port of entry, New York City (NYC) has long been vulnerable to infectious disease threats, whether naturally occurring or intentional. In the event a novel influenza strain develops the capacity for efficient human-to-human transmission anywhere in the world, it would not take long to reach NYC. Such an outbreak poses wide-ranging challenges, including the potential for huge numbers of illnesses and deaths, a severely strained health care system, and difficult psychosocial consequences for a large proportion of the population, especially the homeless, the homebound, and other vulnerable New Yorkers. Aware of our susceptibility, the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH) has for many years placed great emphasis on emergency preparedness planning, even before 9/11. Working closely with our colleagues in the emergency services, health care, business, and not-for-profit sectors, DOHMH continues to engage in extensive preparedness efforts — more than 50 tabletop, functional, and full-scale exercises in the past 5 years — to test, assess, and strengthen our response capabilities. The NYC DOHMH Pandemic Influenza Preparedness and Response Plan draws on lessons learned from these efforts, providing a comprehensive, scalable, and flexible strategy to protect the health of New Yorkers."

The Business Continuity Institute (BCI) has made Voluntary Supplier Declaration forms available from the Institute’s website. The UK Tripartite Authorities are encouraging all suppliers of recovery facilities to use the BCI's Voluntary Supplier Declaration form to submit information relating to concentration risk. The move follows the Resilience Benchmarking Project report, which asked both UK firms and business continuity providers to be more transparent about business recovery provisions.

(1999) In 1993, HSE, in conjunction with the Home Office and the Scottish Office, published The guide to health, safety and welfare at pop concerts and other similar events. The publication was well received and was adopted as the standard for planning and managing health and safety at these events. In the light of changes to health and safety law, and the continuing development of best practice by the event industry, the guide has been reviewed and revised. The advice in this publication has been tried and tested and lays down a firm foundation on which to organise health and safety at music events. Many of the chapters can be applied to other types of event which, although not necessarily having a musical theme, share some of the common characteristics of music events. This publication will enable event organisers, local authorities, the emergency services and HSE to work together to improve event safety. Their commitment to the production of this guide will ensure that health and safety remains a priority and that all involved will be able to continue to enjoy these events in safety.
