ABOUT TERRORISM
“Recent incidents, including the attack on New York and the Pentagon as well as
anthrax-laced letters have left people in all cities and towns painfully aware that
terrorists can strike anywhere, any time. Although federal agencies stand ready to
respond to a terrorist incident, the fact is that the first response almost always falls
on the shoulders of local emergency responders. As with any major incident, the
first critical decisions are made by local law enforcement officers, fire departments,
EMS and emergency management personnel. Clearly, emergency responders
must train to learn how to prepare for terrorism in order to minimize property
damage, injuries, and loss of life, and to bring perpetrators to justice.”
