White Paper: The New Business Continuity Management Model, by Dan Wilder
This is a whitepaper Dan Wilder wrote over the course of nearly 3 years while designing, developing and deploying a BCM program at DHL. The approach in this model is based upon BS25999 with many other standards and industry best practices referenced to establish a truly holistic approach to BCM.
This document proposes that BCM is the management structured program that will manage the underlying functional programs such as Security, BC / DR Planning, Risk Management, Change & Configuration Management, Asset Management and eDiscovery. It implies the need for compliance to a set of adopted standards and uses both ITIL and CoBIT as frameworks to accomplish these tasks.
Dan Wilder has placed it in public domain for all to read and use. This document has also been offered to the ISO BCM Standards committee that is in process of creating the new ISO standard for BCM. Through this effort the document has also been provided to ASIS, DRII, BSI, CPAC and many other organizations that may benefit from its contents.
