In a Down Economy, What is Really Important?
These days there are cutbacks mentioned everywhere. What amazes me as a CBCP (Certified Business Continuity Professional) is to hear an executive ask the question “Where do I cut back?” or “How do I know where to concentrate my resources?” The answer should be very clear: “Look at your business continuity plan, particularly the BIA section.” Did you not look at your business as an entity and rate your processes in order of priority? Did you think that the planning was only for a storm, tornado, flood or other catastrophe?
The concept of a business continuity plan is to review your business, prioritize functions in order of importance and only then determine how to proceed. You should look at your staffing requirements at various levels, etc. Face it, this is a case where you are looking at business survival. Isn’t that the same as continuity? If you haven’t started yet there are many areas where support can be provided.
