Ghana: Banks lack disaster recovery frameworks

First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. H.A.K Wampah, has stated that even though business continuity and disaster recovery is a key corporate governance practice, most banks operating in the country lack the concept.

Dr. Wampah explained that the concept which is aimed at ensuring the recovery of critical systems or applications in case of an interruption or disaster is missing at most banks making them incapacitated in the case of disaster.

He noted that where they exist, they sometimes are either incomplete or inadequate and in most cases are never tested periodically to determine their robustness.

He therefore implored all banks to take disaster recovery and business continuity matters seriously and develop the appropriate infrastructure for that purpose for effective and efficient banking system.
