Business Continuity Awareness Week 2011 update

The Business Continuity Institute has highlighted new resources which are available to support this year’s international Business Continuity Awareness Week 2011, which will take place from March 21st to 25th.

The main innovation this year is the BC24 online incident simulation game. This team game is available to all companies and organizations to take part in, and walks users through the decisions which need to be taken by various organizational leaders during an incident.

The game can be undertaken on an anonymous basis or, for the more adventurous, there is a leader board where team scores can be posted. Prizes are available for the top three teams.

BC24 is sponsored by PwC, ClearView and Bureau Veritas.

What’s coming up during the week?

This year’s BCAW will provide some fantastic opportunities to learn more about business continuity management and engage with experts from around the world. Highlights include:

  • BC24: this is a groundbreaking online incident simulation game for teams of 6 players to test out their crisis management skills and compete with organizations across the world. BC24 will go live on 16th March. Find out more.
  • New webcasts: A 30+ webcast programme that will run throughout the week. You can view them live and ask questions or watch recordings at your leisure.
  • New BCAW Forum: a new LinkedIn Forum for newcomers to ask questions of the BC community and for more experienced practitioners to debate the hot topics in the industry. You can start asking questions today!
  • New research: The BCI and its partners will be publishing new research through the week. Webinars will provide an opportunity to engage with the authors of these reports.
  • New guidance: The BCI Partnership will be publishing new guidance on the link between business interruption insurance and BCM following a 9-month project working with experts from BCM and insurance sector. A webinar will also provide an opportunity to discuss the recommendations.
  • New roundtables: The BCI is also supporting two roundtables in the run up to BCAW and during BCAW on IT Risk Management (with IBM) and the value that BCM can bring in effectively dealing with cyber threats (with PwC). Reports from these sessions will be made available to BCI members following BCAW.
  • New papers: Resilience has become a buzz word in many organizations, but what does it mean and how do you know whether you are a resilient organization? A new discussion paper generated by a BCI Partnership Working Group will be published in the BCAW Forum to stimulate debate.
  • For BCM practitioners looking to run BCM awareness raising activities within their own organizations, check out the ideas and resources made available in the in-house BCAW section of the website.

Various other resources are now available via the event’s dedicated website, www.bcaw2011.com These include a variety of posters, ideas for making the most of Business Continuity Awareness Week and details of local events and free international webcasts.
