Business continuity awareness soars in Mozambique
Although still one of the of the world’s poorest and most underdeveloped countries, the economy in Mozambique is on a steep growth path. The potential in the region has spurred a building boom that is giving its business centres a modern look and feel.
In conjunction with the sterling growth in the economy of Mozambique, ContinuitySA set up a recovery centre in the country in 2008. The centre was an immediate success, but it was soon running at full capacity due to the growth in demand for business continuity services, forcing the company to upgrade its recovery centre to keep pace.
“The year 2010 started with the decision by ContinuitySA to convert the site in Mozambique into a full recovery site with 56 seats ready for clients’ staff, based on the standards employed in South Africa,” says ContinuitySA’s Brandon Ross. “This means the site also has fully redundant services, such as UPS and generator systems, servers and computers ready for any type of emergency.”
It was initially the banks with international connections that were interested in business continuity, but this has changed in a short period of time with more companies looking for a way to ensure their operations can continue in emergencies. In fact, with the growth in business continuity services in the country, Ross says it is likely that ContinuitySA Mozambique will have to expand further in the near future.
“We’ve even seen an uptake in the number of people asking for training in business continuity management,” adds Ross. “Surprisingly, the people attending the first official training course given by ContinuitySA in the country were very aware of the need for business continuity in their organisations. The questions they raised indicated this is a topic they had considered at length and are looking for answers they can apply in their organisations today.”
ContinuitySA is therefore in the right place at the right time. Mozambique is in the throes of a building and business boom as the economy and opportunities expand, with the associated increase in awareness of the need for business continuity services.
“Mozambique is a fast growing economy with amazing potential for the future,” notes Ross. “The government is capitalising on the potential of the region and supporting business growth, and ContinuitySA is there to ensure it continues, no matter what.”
