BCI Issues New Business Continuity Competencies

The Business Continuity Institute recently released a new document which provides additional detail on its six certification standards for professional practitioners.

Initially developed as ‘The ten key disciplines’ in a collaborative BCI and DRII project, the six certification standards provide an outline of the competencies required by a professional practitioner in order to deliver effective business continuity management.

The new document, “A Guide to Business Continuity Competencies for Applicants to a Professional Grade of Membership of the Business Continuity Institute,” is to be used in conjunction with the “Good Practice Guidelines 2008″ and expands upon what is expected in each of the six areas.

The six areas are:

  • BUSINESS CONTINUITY POLICY AND PROGRAMME MANAGEMENT
  • UNDERSTANDING THE ORGANISATION
  • DETERMINING BUSINESS CONTINUITY STRATEGY
  • DEVELOPING AND IMPLEMENTING BCM RESPONSE
  • EXERCISING, MAINTENANCE AND REVIEW
  • EMBEDDING BCM WITHIN THE ORGANISATION’S CULTURE
